Meta Acquires Conductor AI Coding Agent Startup

Nov 4, 2026·3 min read·By Rahish

A bright daylit conference room with a long light-wood table, black chairs, notebooks and water carafes by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking green trees, the headline META ACQUIRES CONDUCTOR, the orange subline Coding agents join Meta, and the AIWithRahish badge in the bottom-right corner

On Nov. 4, 2026, Conductor founder Charlie Holtz published a post titled “Conductor is joining Meta.” Holtz says Conductor is joining Meta and that the team has “big, crazy plans for the next interface,” with something new to use “early next year.” TechCrunch reported the same day that Meta confirmed the acquisition to the outlet and would not comment further; Axios had reported the deal earlier, and Conductor’s announcement corroborates it. What Conductor announced

Holtz’s post frames the deal as a step toward a new interface for agent-driven coding. Conductor will keep working as normal until early next year, except for Conductor Cloud, which will shut down over the next few weeks, the company says.

Conductor says it built an easy way to transfer Conductor Cloud workspaces to local use and invites users who need help to email [email protected]. Holtz thanks customers for trusting the product since launch.

Cloud shutdown timeline

Conductor published a dated timeline alongside the Meta news. On Nov. 4, 2026, new sign-ups and app downloads stop; existing free users cannot upgrade to pro, but pro users can keep pro features for free, according to Conductor.

On Nov. 13, 2026, Conductor Cloud workspaces go read-only: users can read old chats and export data but cannot send new messages, and active subscribers will get a refund, Conductor says. On Nov. 20, 2026, Conductor Cloud shuts down and the company begins deleting Conductor Cloud user data; Conductor asks users to export before that date.

Local Conductor will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, with a wind-down after that, Conductor’s FAQ states. Holtz writes that the team hopes to have something new users can try by then.

How TechCrunch describes Conductor

TechCrunch describes Conductor as an AI coding startup that lets developers run multiple coding agents in parallel workspaces. The outlet says users can spin up agentic teams in the cloud, locally, or via phone, and that Conductor relies on agents from Anthropic and OpenAI rather than models developed in-house.

TechCrunch quotes Holtz as looking forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Superintelligence Labs. The article notes that core Conductor features are expected to continue until early next year, with the cloud exception shutting Nov. 20 and deleting cloud data afterward.

TechCrunch also notes that Meta launched Muse Code in August and that Muse agents surpassed 10 million users, placing the acquisition in a broader Meta push on coding and agent products. TechCrunch does not report a purchase price or valuation.

Data, refunds and exports

Conductor’s FAQ says users can transfer a cloud workspace to local by right-clicking the workspace and choosing Transfer to local, or export an archive via Settings → Account → Export data. Conductor states it has never sold or trained on user data and will delete Conductor user data when the app shuts down in early 2027.

Active subscribers will receive refunds, Conductor says. The company does not detail post-acquisition product names or Meta integration steps beyond Holtz’s teaser about something new early next year.

What it means

Analysis (ours). Meta is buying a workflow layer built around parallel third-party coding agents rather than a proprietary model lab. Conductor’s cloud exit is fast and explicit, while the local app buys time into early 2027; that split suggests Meta may care most about the team and interface ideas Holtz teases for next year, not keeping Conductor Cloud as a standalone service. With deal terms undisclosed and Meta declining further comment to TechCrunch, the near-term roadmap inside Superintelligence Labs stays opaque until Meta or Conductor share more.

What to watch

Whether Meta names a successor product by early 2027, how many Conductor Cloud users complete local transfers before Nov. 20, and any further signals from Wang’s or Friedman’s organizations on agentic coding after the Muse Code and Muse user milestones TechCrunch cited.
